  • A host supervisor at the faculty whose expertise matches your project
  • New international research contacts and possible long-term collaboration

The stipend isn’t an employment contract with the university. The call doesn’t mention travel, visa or accommodation support, so plan for those costs yourself.

Eligibility

  • You must be a researcher at a university outside Austria.
  • You must not have been employed by the University of Vienna at any time in the last six months.
  • Senior Fellowships are for professors. Junior Fellowships are for PhD candidates and postdoctoral researchers.
  • Your research project must fit one or more of the Faculty of Law’s research priorities.

Tips for African Applicants

  • Find your host first. The supervision agreement is the hardest part, so email a faculty member whose work matches yours and briefly explain your project.
  • Link your project to Vienna’s priorities. Make the connection explicit in your letter.
  • Plan your Schengen visa. Austria is in the Schengen area, so apply for your visa as soon as you’re selected in December.
  • Budget carefully. €800–1,050 a month is modest for Vienna, especially for rent.
