HoPE Cash Transfer 2026: How Beneficiaries Get the ₦75,000 (and Why There Is No Online Application)

Many Nigerians are searching for how to “apply” for the Federal Government’s ₦75,000 HoPE Cash Transfer. Here is the honest answer: there is no open online application form. The programme pays households that are already listed for support, and some beneficiaries have recently reported receiving ₦25,000 payment alerts. This guide explains how the programme works, how to check and collect a payment, and how to avoid the scammers who are using it to steal money and personal data.

What Is the HoPE Cash Transfer?

The Household Prosperity and Empowerment (HoPE) Cash Transfer is run by the National Cash Transfer Office (NCTO) under the National Social Safety Nets Project – Scale Up, funded by an $800 million World Bank loan. According to government figures reported in March 2026, more than 9 million households had received at least the first payment, and the government aims to expand the programme to 15 million.

Benefits: How Much Beneficiaries Receive

  • ₦25,000 per payment
  • three payments (tranches)
  • ₦75,000 in total per eligible household

Payments are reportedly being made through financial institutions such as Fortis Microfinance Bank and Teasy Pay, among others. Not every household is paid at the same time or through the same provider.

Eligibility: Who Gets Paid?

The programme targets poor and vulnerable households. Beneficiaries are drawn from existing government records of vulnerable households — mainly the National Social Register — rather than from an open public application. If your household is already listed, you may receive an SMS when a payment is made.

If you believe your household should be included, the safest step is to ask through official channels: your State Cash Transfer Unit, your local government’s social protection desk, or the NCTO. Do not rely on WhatsApp links or social media “registration” forms.

How to Apply — and What To Do If You Received an Alert

Because there is no public application form, “applying” really means making sure your household is captured in official registers. If you have already received an alert:

  1. Read the SMS carefully and note the financial institution named in it.
  2. Contact that institution only through its official customer service — its website, official app or a branch — to confirm how to withdraw.
  3. If told to open an account, confirm this with the institution directly before sharing any details.
  4. For questions about eligibility or missing payments, contact the National Cash Transfer Office through its official channels.

A helpline, 969 (reported to work on MTN, Monday–Friday, 9am–5pm), has been shared in media reports. We could not independently confirm it, so check it on official NCTO channels before relying on it.

How to Avoid HoPE Cash Transfer Scams

  • Participation is free. Never pay anyone to “register”, “approve” or “release” your payment.
  • Ignore links on WhatsApp, Facebook or TikTok that ask you to “apply for ₦75,000” — they are not official.
  • Never share your BVN, NIN, card PIN, password or OTP with anyone claiming to help with the payment.
  • Check alerts in your actual bank or wallet app, not just by SMS — fake credit alerts exist.
  • Report scams to your bank and to the NCTO.

Frequently Asked Questions
