Do you work on gender, care work, labour rights or economic justice, but never had the chance to study feminist economics formally? The International Association for Feminist Economics (IAFFE) is now accepting applications for its Feminist Economics School 2027 in Okayama, Japan. The school is free, and travel grants are available for selected participants. Applications close on December 10, 2026.
About the IAFFE Feminist Economics School
IAFFE is the leading global network of feminist economists. Its Feminist Economics School brings together about 30 early-career scholars, practitioners, activists and policymakers who engage with feminist economics issues but have had little or no formal training in the field.
The 2027 school is the fifth edition. Earlier schools took place in Cape Town, South Africa (2023), Rome, Italy (2024), Amherst, USA (2025) and Cali, Colombia (2026). Participants have come from around the world, including Indigenous and minority communities.
The 2027 school runs from June 29 to July 1, 2027, at Okayama University. Over two and a half days of interactive workshops, you will build a strong base in feminist economic thought, research methods and policy applications. You will also reflect on your own work and experience.
Benefits of the Feminist Economics School 2027
- No participation fee
- Travel grants for selected participants
- Training from leading feminist economists
- Interactive, hands-on workshops rather than lectures
- A place at the IAFFE Pre-Conference (July 1) and the 35th IAFFE Annual Conference (July 2–4, 2027)
- A global network of researchers, activists and policymakers
Please note: some listings call this school “fully funded”. The official call says participation is free and travel grants are available to selected participants. It does not promise that every participant will get travel funding or that all costs will be covered.
Who Can Apply? Eligibility Requirements
You can apply if you have either:
- At least five years of professional, activist or social movement experience related to feminist economics, or
- At least three years of advanced graduate studies in a field related to feminist economics
You also need a solid command of English, because the workshops are highly interactive. Applications from people in the Global South and from historically discriminated-against groups are especially welcome. This includes applicants from Nigeria and across Africa.
Time Commitment
Participants are expected to attend the school, the Pre-Conference and the full Annual Conference. In total, that is about six days, from June 29 to July 4, 2027. The school is a full-immersion experience, so plan to be fully present during and outside formal sessions.
