Danish Government Scholarship 2027 at the University of Southern Denmark (SDU) Closes 1 Feb

The University of Southern Denmark (SDU) is offering Danish Government Scholarships for the 2027 intake. Each one is a full tuition-fee waiver for highly qualified students from outside the EU/EEA. It covers selected engineering master’s programmes on SDU’s Sønderborg campus and technology bachelor’s programmes on its Vejle campus.

Deadlines: 1 February 2027 for master’s applicants and 15 March 2027 for bachelor’s applicants. You do not need a separate scholarship application: you apply for admission, and SDU considers you automatically.

About the Danish Government Scholarship at SDU

The Danish government funds a limited number of scholarships through the Danish Government Scholarship programme for highly qualified applicants from outside the EU/EEA. At SDU, these scholarships are only available for the programmes listed below.

Eligible Programmes

Master’s programmes (Sønderborg campus):

  • MSc in Engineering – Electronics/Electrical Engineering
  • MSc in Engineering – Mechanical Engineering
  • MSc in Engineering – Mechatronics

Bachelor’s programmes (Vejle campus):

  • BSc in Artificial Intelligence
  • BSc in Computer Science
  • BSc in Interactive Technology Engineering
  • BSc in Software Engineering

Scholarship Benefits

  • A full tuition-fee waiver for two years (MSc programmes) or three years (BSc programmes)
  • The waiver covers up to 30 ECTS per semester. Courses beyond 30 ECTS are not covered.

Please note: SDU’s official page describes the scholarship as a tuition-fee waiver only. It does not mention a living allowance, so plan how you will cover living costs in Denmark.

To keep the scholarship, you must make satisfactory academic progress each semester, which as a guide means completing at least 30 ECTS per semester.

Who Can Apply?

  • Citizens of countries outside the EU/EEA, including Nigeria and other African countries
  • Applicants to one of the eligible programmes above
  • Applicants who are not eligible for the Danish State Grant. Students who qualify for the State Grant cannot be considered.
  • For master’s programmes: a relevant bachelor’s degree, proof of English proficiency, and the programme’s specific entry requirements

Selection Process

Master’s level: scholarships go to the best-qualified candidates based on their bachelor’s grade point average and an online interview with people from the programme. Interviews take place between 19 and 27 February, and invitations arrive at short notice after 15 February. The interview includes a few technical questions on the entry requirements and needs no special preparation.

Bachelor’s level: selection is based on the online admission test (uniTEST) and an online interview. Applicants with the highest test scores are invited in late May, and interviews take place in early June. The interview includes a few maths questions and a short talk about your motivation.

Application Deadlines

  • Master’s programmes: apply for admission by 1 February 2027, even if you have a Danish residence permit
  • Bachelor’s programmes: apply for admission by 15 March 2027

How to Apply

  1. Choose an eligible programme. For master’s applicants, it must be your first priority if you apply for more than one SDU programme.
  2. Apply for admission through SDU’s online application portal (DANS). There is no separate scholarship form.
  3. Pay the EUR 200 application deposit, which all fee-paying applicants must pay. It is refunded if you receive a scholarship.
  4. Upload every required document when you apply. SDU will not ask for missing documents, and an incomplete application cannot be considered for the scholarship. Master’s applicants need:
    • the application deposit fee receipt
    • official bachelor’s transcripts and diploma in English, Danish, Swedish or Norwegian, showing grades and credits for each course
    • verified course descriptions for the courses on your transcript
    • a self-assessment form (Electronics and Mechatronics programmes)
    • proof of English proficiency
  5. Watch your email for the interview invitation.
