Are you building a startup that could change healthcare, finance, education or any other sector in Africa or beyond? Y Combinator (YC), one of the world’s best-known startup accelerators, is accepting applications for its Winter 2027 batch. Every accepted company gets a US$500,000 investment.
The on-time deadline is 2 November 2026 at 8pm Pacific Time, which is 5am on 3 November in Nigeria (WAT).
About Y Combinator Winter 2027
Y Combinator invests in early-stage startups and runs an intensive programme to help them grow. The Winter 2027 batch starts in January 2027 and takes place in person at YC’s campus in San Francisco. It begins with a three-day in-person kick-off and includes regular meetups in San Francisco.
YC accepts founders from around the world, including HealthTech, digital health, AI, MedTech, fintech and biotech founders in Africa.
Benefits for Selected Startups
- US$500,000 investment on YC’s standard deal. YC puts in $125,000 for 7% of your company and $375,000 on an uncapped SAFE with a “most favoured nation” (MFN) clause.
- Investment on acceptance: YC starts investing the day you are accepted, not when the batch begins.
- A dedicated YC partner: every general partner is a successful founder. You get a direct Slack channel with your partner and weekly meetings during the batch.
- Talks from top founders: founders of companies such as OpenAI, Airbnb, Stripe and DoorDash often speak to the batch.
- Over $12 million in credits and deals from partners including OpenAI, Anthropic, AWS, Google Cloud, Azure and Stripe.
- Demo Day: YC introduces companies to its investor network towards the end of the batch to help them raise more money.
- Travel costs: founders can use the investment to pay for travel to San Francisco.
Who Can Apply?
- Founders from around the world, including Africa.
- Startups at any early stage. On average, YC says, 40% of the companies it funds in each batch are just an idea, and most have no revenue.
- Companies that have already raised money or have revenue are also welcome.
- Students and employees can apply, but founders must commit to working full-time on the company during the batch and afterwards if accepted.
- Past applicants are encouraged to reapply. YC says about half the companies in a typical batch applied more than once before being accepted.
YC asks for one application per company per batch.
