Entrepreneurs for Resilience 2027: Funding and Application Guide

The Entrepreneurs for Resilience 2027 programme is now accepting applications from social enterprises working to improve access to affordable and quality primary healthcare in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs).

This Swiss Re Foundation programme focuses on healthcare models that combine physical points of care with digital solutions. Therefore, it is designed for established healthcare ventures that already have meaningful reach and want to scale their impact.

What is the Entrepreneurs for Resilience Programme?

Entrepreneurs for Resilience is a Swiss Re Foundation programme that supports healthcare social enterprises serving underserved communities.

For 2027, the programme is looking for “brick and click” models. In simple terms, this means combining physical healthcare delivery with digital tools.

Examples include telemedicine, e-pharmacies, electronic medical records, digital health services, virtual primary care, digital referrals and AI-supported diagnostics.

Who Is Eligible for the Entrepreneurs for Resilience 2027?

The programme is intended for for-profit and hybrid healthcare social enterprises.

Applicants must:

  • Improve access to healthcare in LMICs.
  • Combine physical and digital healthcare delivery.
  • Serve low-income and underserved populations.
  • Have at least 30% of their customer base from low-income or underserved groups.
  • Be formally registered or operate through a formally established hybrid structure.
  • Have been established by December 2023 at the latest.
  • Generate at least 50% of income through earned revenue.
  • Already serve at least 50,000 people.
  • Have a strong management team and clear responsibilities.
  • Comply with applicable local laws and be able to receive funding from a Swiss NGO.

The programme therefore targets established ventures rather than very early-stage ideas.

Which Countries or Regions Are Eligible?

Applicants must operate in countries classified by the World Bank as low- and middle-income countries (LMICs).

Therefore, eligible ventures can come from qualifying countries across Africa, Asia, Latin America and other LMIC regions.

Nigeria-based enterprises may therefore be eligible, provided they meet all the other requirements. The key issue is the organisation’s country of operation and compliance with the full criteria.

What Does the Programme Cover?

The programme focuses on expanding access to primary healthcare.

In particular, it supports solutions that:

  • Connect physical care with digital healthcare.
  • Make healthcare more affordable.
  • Improve referrals and continuity of care.
  • Use data and technology to improve healthcare delivery.
  • Connect with public health systems and digital health infrastructure.
  • Reach underserved communities at scale.

As a result, businesses working in health-tech, primary care, e-pharmacy, telemedicine and related areas may fit the programme’s scope if they meet the full eligibility requirements.

What Documents Are Required for the Entrepreneurs for Resilience 2027?

For Round 1, the official application information does not provide a separate list of academic certificates or a long document checklist.

However, applicants should have accurate information about their organisation ready, including:

  • Registration and legal structure.
  • Customer reach.
  • Revenue model and earned income.
  • Healthcare services.
  • Social impact.
  • Management team.
  • Growth plans.
  • Digital and physical healthcare operations.

If an applicant reaches the later stages, the programme includes detailed due diligence. This can involve an on-site visit, impact assessment and further review of the organisation.

What Are the Funding and Other Benefits?

The programme provides several forms of support.

Shortlisted enterprises can receive pilot funding of up to US$45,000 during the due diligence stage.

In addition, finalists can share up to US$1 million in blended funding over a two-year implementation period. This includes conditional and unconditional funding.

Participants can also receive:
