The Mozilla Foundation has launched the Human-Scale AI Incubator, offering US$300,000 and 12 months of support to teams building smaller, specialised, community-focused AI, with up to US$200,000 more in follow-on funding. That makes up to US$500,000 over three years, equity-free. Initial proposals are due 20 November 2026.
Mozilla wants alternatives to giant, one-size-fits-all AI: tools that run locally, use less computing power, protect privacy and give communities control. That makes it highly relevant to African builders working on local-language AI, offline tools or community-owned data.
