The 2026 UNFCCC CAPACITY Fellowship Programme is now open for applications. The fully funded fellowship supports climate professionals from Small Island Developing States (SIDS) and Least Developed Countries (LDCs). In addition, selected fellows will work at the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) Secretariat in Bonn, Germany.
The programme focuses on climate adaptation, sustainable development, and climate policy implementation. Furthermore, fellows will gain international experience while strengthening their professional skills.

About the UNFCCC CAPACITY Fellowship Programme
The fellowship is funded by the Government of Portugal through the Capacity Award Programme to Advance Capabilities and Institutional Training in One Year (CAPACITY).
The programme aims to:
- Build climate adaptation expertise
- Support climate policy implementation
- Strengthen leadership and technical skills
- Promote international collaboration
- Develop local climate professionals
In addition, fellows will contribute to climate adaptation planning and sustainable development strategies under the Paris Agreement.
Participants will also:
- Work with global climate experts

- Build international professional networks
- Improve leadership and policy skills

Who Can Apply?

Applicants must:
- Be nationals of eligible Lusophone SIDS or LDCs
- Currently work in a government agency, research institute, or educational institution
- Be 40 years old or younger
- Hold a Master’s degree in a related field
- Have at least three years of climate-related work experience
- Demonstrate strong English communication skills

- Cabo Verde
- Guinea-Bissau
- Mozambique
- São Tomé and Príncipe
- Timor-Leste
Fellowship Benefits
Selected fellows will receive:
- EUR 4,500 monthly stipend
