The Government of the Republic of Mauritius has officially opened applications for the Mauritius Africa Scholarship Scheme 2026. This annual initiative allows outstanding students from African Union member states and Commonwealth of Nations member countries to pursue fully funded higher education in Mauritius.

Eligibility Criteria
To qualify, applicants must meet the age and program requirements below.
Undergraduate Programmes
- Minimum age: 18 years
- Must not be older than 26 years by 1 January 2027
Postgraduate Programmes (MPhil, MPhil/PhD, PhD)
- Must not be older than 40 years by 1 January 2027
Programme Application Requirement
Applicants must first apply for a full-time on-campus programme at a public Higher Education Institution (HEI) in Mauritius.
Eligible institutions appear in Section 8 of the Guidelines for Applicants.
Duration of Scholarship
The scholarship covers the official duration of each programme as follows:
- Undergraduate Diploma: 3 years
- Undergraduate Degree: 4 years
- MPhil: 2 years + 6 months for thesis defence
- MPhil/PhD: 3 years + transfer + thesis defence extensions
- PhD: 3 years + 6 months for thesis defence
Scholarship Benefits

Application Process
To ensure a smooth application, follow the steps below:
- Submit your application through your country’s nominating agency
- Usually housed within the Ministry of Education
- Ensure Section 5 of the application form is endorsed by the nominating agency
- Each agency may nominate up to 15 candidates
- Submit the completed application before 27 March 2026
