Eligibility Criteria
To qualify for the Afreximbank Internship Program, applicants must:
- Be enrolled full-time in an undergraduate or postgraduate program at a recognized institution.
- Study in fields such as Economics, Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, Law, Engineering, Statistics, or Social Sciences.
- Be nationals of Afreximbank member states, or students of African descent in the diaspora. Non-African students with a shared vision for Africa’s transformation are also encouraged to apply.
- Be fluent in English or French (knowledge of Arabic or Portuguese is an added advantage).
- Be aged between 20 and 32 years at the time of application.
- Provide a recommendation letter from their academic institution indicating their proposed internship period (maximum six months).
Note: Children of Afreximbank staff are not eligible for the program.
Internship Duration and Application Period
Internships run twice a year, beginning in January and June, for up to six months.
Applications are accepted year-round, but only successful candidates will be contacted due to limited slots.
Internship Experience and Placement
Once selected, interns receive a conditional offer, which they must accept within two weeks. During this time, they must provide medical insurance and personal accident coverage valid in Egypt (or their assigned internship location).
Interns will:
- Participate in a comprehensive induction program.
- Work under a mentor in a primary department.
- Rotate through key departments to understand the full scope of Afreximbank operations.
- Submit a final report reflecting on their learning experience and its potential impact on Africa’s transformation.
Internship Terms and Benefits
While interns cover their own accommodation, meals, and insurance, Afreximbank provides generous support, including:
- Return airfare (most economical route).
- A monthly tax-free stipend of USD 1,000.
- A housing allowance of USD 500 for those relocating from their home country.
- One week of hotel accommodation during induction (bed and breakfast).
- Airport transfers on arrival and departure.
- Residence visa support, where applicable.
