Waking up to the devastating effects of climate change, one truth stands clear: youth-led climate action is not only necessary, it is urgent. That’s why the Global Youth Climate Action Fund (GYCAF) is stepping up to create a future where young people are both empowered and equipped to lead sustainable solutions. With its 2025 Microgrants Program now open, GYCAF is placing financial power directly in the hands of youth leaders who are passionate about reshaping their communities through climate innovation.
This year’s cycle offers a dynamic opportunity for individuals and organizations led by youth (ages 18 to 35) who are actively engaged in grassroots environmental activism. Whether you’re pioneering clean energy projects or revolutionizing sustainable agriculture, GYCAF wants to help you bring your ideas to life. Importantly, the fund doesn’t just provide money—it fosters capacity-building, innovation, and long-term impact.
Why This Matters Now
Time is no longer on our side. According to the IPCC, the next decade is crucial. Global leaders, through agreements like the Paris Accord, aim to limit temperature rise to below 2 degrees Celsius. However, these ambitious goals require more than just policies—they demand implementation at the community level, led by those with the most at stake: young people.
Recognizing this, GYCAF’s 2025 grant cycle focuses on six critical areas:
- Sustainable Agriculture
- Clean Energy
- Ocean Conservation
- Green Stewardship
- Capacity Building
- Climate Tech and Innovation
Each of these categories supports not only environmental health but also economic empowerment, enabling young innovators to build green businesses and create jobs while fighting climate change.
How to Qualify
Before applying, ensure your project meets the following:
- Youth-led (80% owned and operated by youth aged 18–35)
- Clear climate and community impact
- Detailed, actionable implementation plan
- Strong team dynamics and leadership clarity
- Transparent and realistic budgeting
Furthermore, applicants must demonstrate a deep understanding of local issues and how their project fills a unique gap. The initiative should not only respond to existing environmental needs but also contribute meaningfully to broader global sustainability goals like Agenda 2030 and SDG 5 on gender equality.
Application and Reporting Timeline
Applications are open from June 23rd to July 19th, 2025. Once the deadline closes, GYCAF’s expert panel will review each proposal. Selected grantees will be announced in early August and should begin project implementation soon after.
For six months, grantees must submit:
- A Progress Report at the halfway point
- An Impact Report upon completion, detailing outcomes, challenges, solutions, and measurable impact on both the climate and community
These reports must include photos or videos that showcase the work in action—transparency and visibility are vital for building community trust and fostering learning.
Youth are not the leaders of tomorrow, they are the leaders of today. Through the GYCAF Microgrants Program, young visionaries have the opportunity to transform their big dreams into bold actions. More than ever, climate financing must be inclusive, innovative, and intentional. By backing youth-led climate initiatives, we’re not just reducing emissions—we’re nurturing a generation of green entrepreneurs, innovators, and change-makers.
If you are ready to make a lasting impact and lead your community into a greener future, now is the time to act.
