The Club of Rome Communications Fellowship Programme 2026 is now open for applications, offering a unique opportunity for early-career communications professionals to grow their skills while contributing to global sustainability dialogue. The Communications Fellowship is a seven-month, fully remote mentoring programme designed to increase the diversity of voices shaping sustainability narratives. Specifically, the programme supports early-career professionals from Most of the World, including Africa, Latin America and the Caribbean, and the Asia-Pacific region.

Throughout the fellowship, selected candidates will work closely with the Club of Rome’s communications team. In addition, fellows will take part in one in-person trip to meet team members and collaborators. The programme also provides a modest stipend, along with coverage for work-related travel expenses.

What Will Fellows Do During the Programme?

As a Communications Fellow, you will gain hands-on experience in translating complex systems thinking into clear, engaging content for non-specialist audiences. More importantly, you will work across multiple platforms, ensuring messages reach diverse global audiences.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Publishing and updating content on the Club of Rome website
  • Supporting media outreach and press materials
  • Covering events and thought leadership activities
  • Creating and editing multimedia content
  • Managing and contributing to social media channels
  • Assisting with broader communication initiatives

Number of Positions Available

The Club of Rome is offering two Communications Fellow positions for the 2026 cohort. While applicants may come from diverse professional backgrounds, the organisation is particularly interested in candidates who:

  • Enjoy working across multiple communication channels
  • Have experience or strong interest in multimedia storytelling
  • Feel comfortable balancing writing, visuals, and digital platforms

Who Should Apply?

The ideal candidate for the Club of Rome Communications Fellowship Programme 2026 will meet most of the following criteria:

  • A bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) in science, journalism, or a related field, or current enrolment in or graduation from a science journalism programme
  • Experience writing about systems thinking, sustainability, or scientific research for non-specialist audiences through blogs, newspapers, university platforms, or similar outlets
  • Alternatively, experience producing multimedia content on related topics
  • Strong written and spoken English skills
  • Ability to understand and explain complex research clearly
  • Interest in or experience with social media, video, photography, or multimedia tools
  • Clear alignment with the values, mission, and vision of the Club of Rome

Importantly, due to the fellowship’s objectives, only applicants who reside in Africa, Latin America and the Caribbean, or the Asia-Pacific region will be considered.

Note on AI Use

Your application will be reviewed by human members of the Club of Rome communications team. While AI tools can support drafting, the selection panel values authentic voice, originality, and personal style. Therefore, make sure your application reflects who you are and how you communicate.

Writing and Multimedia Samples

Although you may include links to full portfolios, you should select one writing or multimedia sample that best represents your skills and is most relevant to the fellowship.

Application Deadline

All applications must be submitted by 20 February 2026 at 23:59 CET. Please note that the Club of Rome will not consider:

  • Incomplete applications
  • Applications submitted in languages other than English
  • Applications received after the deadline

Fellowship Duration, Stipend, and Work Schedule

The fellowship will run from 1 July 2026 to 31 January 2027. Fellows will work Monday to Friday for 36 hours per week and will receive 10 days of paid leave during the programme.

The stipend amount will vary depending on the fellow’s location. However, the programme also covers approved work-related travel costs, including the in-person team meeting.
