The International AIDS Society (IAS) has officially opened scholarship applications for the 26th International AIDS Conference (AIDS 2026). This global event will take place 26–31 July 2026 in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, with full virtual participation available. Because many individuals working in the HIV field need financial support to join the conference, the IAS provides one of the most inclusive scholarship programs in global health.

Types of Scholarship Support

The IAS scholarship program offers two forms of support, making participation accessible regardless of financial or geographical constraints.

1. In-Person Scholarship

This option provides complete support for attending the conference in Brazil, including:

  • In-person + virtual registration
  • Access to all sessions, exhibitions, pre-conferences, and the Global Village
  • Pre-paid roundtrip economy-class flight
  • Hotel accommodation in a budget single room
  • Daily living allowance throughout the conference

2. Virtual Scholarship

For applicants who prefer or require remote participation, the virtual award includes:

  • Full online access to live-streamed sessions
  • On-demand recordings
  • Virtual Global Village access
  • E-poster viewing and online platform tools

Additional Benefit for All Recipients

  • 2 years of free IAS membership

Who Receives Priority?

Although the scholarship is competitive, the IAS prioritizes applicants who:

  • Present abstracts, lead workshops, or organize Global Village activities
  • Come from low- and middle-income countries
  • Identify as members of key populations or as people living with HIV
  • Are young professionals or early-career researchers (under 35)
  • Have never received an IAS scholarship before

Eligibility Requirements

To qualify, applicants must:

  • Be 18 years or older by 26 July 2026
  • Work, volunteer, or study in the HIV field
  • Submit a complete application before the deadline
