In that case, the LLM in Human Rights and Democratisation in Africa (HRDA) at the Centre for Human Rights, University of Pretoria, is the opportunity you’ve been waiting for. This prestigious, fully-funded one-year master’s programme unites 25 to 30 of Africa’s brightest minds for an intensive and life-changing academic journey.

Over the year, you will spend six months in Pretoria, followed by another six months at one of 12 leading partner universities across the continent. In addition, participants of the Human Rights and Democratisation in Africa 2025 will benefit from instruction by renowned human rights experts, participate in hands-on training, and engage in dynamic discussions that challenge conventional thinking. Who Is Eligible?
This opportunity is open to applicants from all African countries. While English is the language of instruction, students from non-English-speaking countries must demonstrate proficiency or take a TOEFL test. Additionally, language training is provided, with French offered to Anglophones and Arabic or Portuguese available for bilingual students.
Scholarships and Financial Support
Each year, up to 25 full scholarships are awarded to deserving African students. The Human Rights and Democratisation in Africa 2025. For those who do not qualify for full funding, a limited number of self-funded spots are available for applicants who can cover some or all of the costs.
