AU Emerging Global Leader Scholars are more than just students they are visionary leaders who address challenges in under-resourced communities back home. What the Scholarship Covers
The AU EGLS covers full tuition, room, and board for two international students each year who require an F-1 or J-1 visa. However, recipients must budget for approximately US$4,000 per yearto cover non-billable expenses such as:
- Mandatory health insurance
- Books and study materials
- Airline travel
- Taxes and miscellaneous costs
In addition, the scholarship renews annually for up to four years—provided you maintain strong academic performance.
Who Should Apply?
Preference goes to students who:
- Have overcome personal or educational challenges
- Demonstrate leadership, volunteerism, and community service
- Meet English proficiency requirements
- Will graduate from secondary/high school by June 2026
You cannot apply ifyou are a U.S. citizen, U.S. permanent resident, dual citizen, or have already begun post-secondary studies before 2023.
How to Apply for AU EGLS
1: Submit your Common Application and all required documents before January 15, 2026.
2: Complete the AU EGL Scholarship application and essays through your applicant portal by the same deadline.
Key documents include:
- Bank letter and AU Declaration of Finances Form (minimum US$4,000)
- Official English proficiency test results (TOEFL, IELTS, Duolingo, PTE, or Cambridge)
- Optional: EducationUSA adviser letter if applicable
Finalists and winners will be announced by April 1, 2026. Even if you are not selected, you may still qualify for AU admission and merit-based scholarships.
