AI Fellows Program 2025 – Apply Now to Shape the Future of Ethical AI

Artificial Intelligence is rapidly transforming the world, but true progress happens only when technology serves everyone.. That’s where the AI Fellows Program 2025 at the Gates Foundation comes in. This 12-month limited-term fellowship offers passionate AI professionals the chance to apply their skills to pressing global challenges while advancing responsible and ethical innovation.

Why Join the AI Fellows Program?

Unlike many tech fellowships, this program focuses squarely on AI for the public good. Fellows work on high-impact projects across health, education, agriculture, and global development. For example, you might design an AI-powered diagnostic tool, develop chatbots for healthcare education, or create predictive models that improve crop yields in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs).

At the same time, you’ll collaborate with experts across Global Health, Gender Equality, Global Development, and Global Growth & Opportunity divisions, ensuring that your work addresses real-world needs.

Moreover, the program provides you with:

  • Competitive salary ($148,920–$162,350) depending on location.
  • Full medical, dental, and vision coverage with no premiums.
  • Generous paid leave, retirement contributions, and personal time off.
  • A global platform to share your work and grow your career.

What You’ll Do as an AI Fellow

Throughout the fellowship, you’ll move quickly from problem scoping to rapid prototyping and then to delivering scalable AI solutions. Your tasks will include:

  • Developing data tools and dashboards for better decision-making.
  • Building AI-powered models for health diagnostics.
  • Running lightweight A/B tests to validate new ideas.
  • Designing interactive prototypes for communities in LMICs.
  • Embedding ethical AI practices—bias mitigation, privacy, and inclusivity—in every solution.

Additionally, you’ll play a teaching and mentoring role by hosting workshops and sharing best practices with Foundation teams and partners. This ensures that AI adoption extends far beyond your fellowship year.

Who Should Apply?

The ideal candidate has a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Engineering, or Applied Math. You should also demonstrate strong technical expertise in AI/ML, software development, and data handling. But just as importantly, you must have a mission-driven mindset—a genuine desire to use AI to fight inequity and improve lives.

Candidates must also have the legal right to work in the U.S. since visa sponsorship is not available.

The AI Fellows Program 2025 offers more than just a fellowship. It’s a chance to influence how AI shapes our collective future. By combining cutting-edge technology with the Gates Foundation’s mission, fellows create tools that make a real difference in the world’s most underserved communities.
